NEW! July 25 Hands-on powerboat training. Learn more -
Our year typically begins with our After-the Holidays Party, followed by the Change of Watch in March or April, marking the beginning of a new slate of Bridge Officers. We like to hold an annual Raft-Up in the Norwalk Islands, and traditionally hold a members picnic. Members are encouraged to help plan and hold events as they choose.
Our Squadron Education Officer, in conjunction with other local area squadrons, schedules courses for members to take, to be certified to teach, and to teach. See the Boating Classes pages for more info on the impressive collection of classroom courses that may be offered, as well as in-person Seminars, and on-line course offerings.
Cooperative Charting
The Cooperative Charting Program of the USPS consists of three important and fun-to-do Civic Service activities:
Nautical Surveys (e.g. ATONs and Bridges) are typically conducted on the water by boat
Marina Surveys, which can be done by land or by boating to a marina, and
Geodetic Marker Recoveries which are typically conducted on land.

A vessel safety check is a free voluntary courtesy inspection designed to help educate. The purpose of vessel safety checks is to ensure that a boat has the required safety equipment on board and that the equipment is in good working condition. These vessel safety checks can help boaters identify missing, outdated, or non-functioning safety equipment before it becomes a serious issue on the water. From required life jackets to fire extinguishers, a boat safety check helps to confirm a vessel meets federal and state boating safety standards. Boats that pass will receive the current-year decal indicating compliance for the year.
Members can take a course to become certified as a Vessel Safety Inspector and then do as many VSCs as they find folk to do them for.
Booth At the Norwalk Boat Show
For many years now we have hosted a booth at the Norwalk Boat Show, lately sponsored by Progressive Insurance. Members who man the booth get free entry.
Boating with friends makes boating more fun. A mediocre day on the water is better than a good day anywhere else. Boating with friends makes it even better! Join us for boating activities, social events, learning together, and all-around boating fun. So whether you want to join or organize a group to determine that local buoy positions are accurately positioned according to the latest chart, or head up a Harbor Tour on your own boat for new members, or join the raft-up, or just plain cruise with other members, you'll have some fun and share some good boating experiences.
